9月15日のブログで、ドリアン助川氏の絶叫するような「雨ニモマケズ」を紹介したが、英訳の出ている記事を見つけたので、英語を体に馴染ませようと思う。暗記のために掲載した。（「four go」は「4合」のこと。「木偶の坊」は a blockheadと訳されている。）
Unyielding to rain,
Unyielding to wind,
Unyielding to snow or summer heat
_____Such a strong body has he.
Not gluttonous,
Never angry.
Always he is smiling gentry.
Daily he eats four go of unpolished rice,
Bean paste and a little vegetable.
Disregarding his own ego,
He is attentive
To everything, understands
And never forgets.
He lives in a small thatched hut
In the pine forest upon a field.
Should there be an ailing child in the east,
He will go and attend to him.
Should there be a tired mother in the west,
He will shoulder bundles of rice crops for her.
Should there be a dying man in the south,
He will go and tell him not to be afraid.
Should there be quarrels and lawsuits in the north,
He will tell them to stop doing foolish things.
At the time of drought he sheds his tears.
In a summer of unusual chill he is beside himself.
Dismissed as a blockhead by people around him,
He is neither praised
Nor complaind about.
I want to be
Such a man as he.
