All the dialogue in the novel has meaning, and it all connects to create a plot. I realized that I had always been not good at such conversations.／小説の中の会話には全て意味があって、全てが筋を作るためにつながっている。ぼくはそういう会話がずっと苦手だったことに気づいた。
ぼくの訳というか、英文の方がぼくの文章の訳なのだが、英語はまず構文的に主語を置かなければならないから、All the dialogue in the novelとまず来る。小説一般のことを言うのだが、ぼくは改めてこのことに気づく。小説は意味の全体なのだ。全体につなげる筋は会話の意味なのだということに今更のように気づいたわけだ。そのように小説の構造に気づくと自分の人生にも気づくことがある。会話の重要性に。そして自分は、I realized that I had always been not good at such conversations. そのような会話がこれまで、いつも、苦手だった。だったらぼくの人生はどうだったのか推して知るべしだ。
